The latest announcement of Russian Defence Ministry warning the US and Coalition partners to not strike any Syrian army positions fuels the tension build up in Syria. The latest addition of Russian S-400 and S-300 air-defense systems are deployed to protect its troops stationed at the Tartus naval supply base and the Khmeimim airbase.
According to Russian defence ministry concentration of aid troops are working with civil communities to restore and bring aid.
Russia’s reacts on Turkey, shooting down one of its air planes end of 2015 and US air strike in September 2016 on position of Syrian forces that lead to over 80 dead. Despite the US claiming this was a mistake, Russia continues to strengthen its defences on Syrian soil.
The presence of foreign defence forces in Syria are making the situation become more complex. Some countries in Syria state their efforts are humanitarian or diplomatic of nature with the aim to combat terrorism or find solutions to stop it.
Beginning of October 2016 Chinese military has agreed with Damascus for Chinese military to provide humanitarian aid to Syria and training. Hussar China has been working in Syria along side with Iran, mostly in a diplomatic role at the background. This change could very well mean a first involvement in the Syrian conflict from Chinese side.
Many countries that are involved in Syria find themselves either supporting Assat or working against him. The US, the European coalition partners and Saudi Arabia accuses Assat of atrocities against humanity and claim he should go. Russia openly backs Assat and together with China and Iran form a major opposition.
The question is, will all parties remain calm enough and focus on fighting terrorism and deliver humanitarian aid or are these developments in Syria a recipe for disaster?
