Astronaut Peggy Whitson has been sent into space departing from Kazakhstan Baikonur cosmodrome. Holding the record for longest time in space she is now on her third mission to ISS (International Space Station)

She is the first woman to have commanded the ISS and now planning to break some more records whilst she is up there. She will turn 57 during her stay in space.

Traveling together with her are Russian cosmonaut Oleg Novitsky and French comsmonaut Thomas Pesquet.

They are planning to stay until may 2017 to perform scientific experiments.
