WORLD NEWS TOMORROW – The names of celebrities and politicians targeted by the News of the World phone hacking scandal have been coming out in drips and dribs for months. But now we may finally get a full picture of who was targeted by the shuttered News Corp. tabloid.
The names of 600 hacking victims will be released in the coming weeks by British prosecutors, according to London’s Independent, opening News Corp. to hundreds more lawsuits in the ongoing case, following the arrests of more than a dozen former employees of the paper.
The new round of attention on misdoings at the tabloid is sure to bring further embarrassment to News Corp. as it prepares to spin off its publishing assets, including its remaining British papers, into a new company.
Already the company has settled with dozens of hacking victims in lawsuits brought over the paper’s misconduct.Among those who are known to have been hacked are British soccer star Wayne Rooney, singer Charlotte Church, Sir Paul McCartney and Sienna Miller.
