WORLD NEWS TOMORROW | WNT NEWS WELLINGTON, New Zealand, A unexpected strong earthquake has struck off the east coast of New Zealand fearing a possible tsunami, on Saturday. There were no immediate reports of any injuries or damage told to world news.
The U.S. Geological Survey says the magnitude-5.8 temblor struck Saturday off the east coast of the North Island at a depth of 20 kilometers (12 miles) with no prior warning or indications.
New Zealand is prone to earthquakes and have had catastrophic earthquakes in the past. In February 2011, a strong quake in Christchurch killed 185 people and destroyed much of the city’s downtown area dismantling it to rubble.
Some scientist predicts an increase in earthquakes towards the end of 2012.This was the second international earthquake this month so far.
